Kumu Ku'uwehilani Waianuhea Aquai Cid-Iulio
(affectionately known as "Auntie Lani")
I have been teaching Hula, Ori Tahiti and Maori for over 20 years. My formal hula
training started with my kupunawahine, Lillian Ka'anoali'i Mahai'ula Aquai. She
was born and raised in Hilo, on the Big Island of Hawai'i, and received her formal
hula training from Kumu Hula Rose Kuamo'o. I have also been blessed with many
opportunities to attend workshops and conferences led by Cy Bridges, Keali'i
Reichel, Sonny Ching, Uncle George Holokai, Cody Pata Pueo, the Kanaka'ole
Family, Hokulani Holt-Padilla, Edith McKenzie, Mark Ho'omalu, Ray Fonseca,
Turere Mataoa, and Auntie Roiti Silva, just to name a few. As a principal dancer
of Ka Ua Tuahine in Berkeley, I had the opportunity to participate in many major
theater productions and elite cultural dance competitions.
